Afriyie Ankrah's Commentary On World Cup Fiasco

I believe the ludicrous events that happened in Brazil are still on the minds of many Ghanaians. Our beloved country appeared in the headlines worldwide. We are yet to forget that horrible event.

The black stars players sparked a controversy in Brazil - a controversy which saw Ghana in a total and complete state of embarrassment. Players threatened not to train or play the next game if their bonuses were unpaid.

Government was forced to send US$3 million to Brazil to salvage the situation. Then Minister of Youth and Sports has given his account of the event. In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah disclosed that the air-lifting of US$3 million was a secret move and National Security were in charge of it. However, news became public when his own colleagues blew everything.

" First of all, this was meant to be a covert operation[undercover]. I was working with the National Security. You can't carry money from Bank of Ghana and put it on a plane. It was one of my colleagues who came on air and blew the cover that the money is on the tarmac. "

I would like to digress a little but it is so clear it would redundant to elaborate any further. A Commission of Inquiry was set by the President to look into matters what actually caused Ghana's poor showing at the World Cup.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah in his conclusion made some interesting remarks. He said the absurd event which happened at the World Cup was  tactically planned and also a deliberate attempt by others to see him fail.

" There were people who for one reason or another did not like me and the World Cup was an opportunity for them. There is a lot of politics in football "
