Bartidam On Corruption: Let's be honest. Corruption is rife in Ghana.

Almost every day the news is filled with stories that look like corruption. Today, Daniel Bartidam, the president's advisor on corruption, aired his opinion.

Bartidam on Corruption

We should trust the president’s call that we should have confidence in what is happening because he has shown all the commitment. Sometimes we demand certain things that are not within the domain of the executive and that is where in terms of due process and rule of law, you have to draw the lines between where the President’s powers begin and where it ends and where the judicial powers begin and ends.

I think by now anybody who has been in Ghana for the last couple of years will know that the issue about corruption has been put on the front burner, nobody is pretending that there is no corruption in the country. What we are saying is that everybody should be on board and the President is doing his best but you must also realise that there is rule of law.

I will never make a sweeping statement that nobody is corrupt when every day we are talking about corruption in the country, when every day we are talking about corruption in the public sector.

When it comes to prosecution that is where I think that sometimes we are expecting too much from the presidency or the executive arm of government in general. Prosecution requires some gathering of evidence and the Attorney general will tell you that every now and then there are issues the President or the executive arm requests the law enforcement agencies to get to the bottom of matters and bring what they can get for the AG to make a decision.
